Creating a Free WordPress Website – Assignment 1

  • Go to WordPress.com and create a free account. Use:

Your school email which is your UserId@live.saisd.net

Your UserId as URL

UserId as account user name

School password plus add first and last initals of your name, one upper case and one lower case

  • Log into your email account by going to www.saisd.net, go to the student section and click on student email. Log into your account with your school email UserId@live.saisd.net and the password you use to log into your computer.
  • Click on the WordPress email and activate your account
  • Go back to your WordPress account and Choose a Theme
  • Publish your 1st post by going to “My Site” (top left corner) then click on the “Add” button next to “Blog Posts” on the left menu
  • Click on “View Site” and marvel at your work then go to the next assignment

  • Log into your WordPress account
  • Change your Theme to “Radcliffe 2” by clicking on “Themes” and clicking on the search menu with the hour glass and typing in “Radcliffe 2” then click on the 3 dot menu and click “Activate”
  • Click on the “View Site” button on the top left to view your website then click on “Visit Site” to see how it will look to the world
  • Click on “Site Pages” and click on “About” and change the information to have your name and class period on it then click on “Update” on the top right corner
  • Click on “Close” on the top left corner and click on the “Add” button next to “Site Pages”
  • Click on “Title” and type “Home Page” and then click on the area below the tool menu and copy and paste a Summer Image from the internet
  • Click on “View Site” and marvel at your work then go to the next assignment

Setting up your Front Page as Home Page and Creating Categories and posting in them.

  • Log into your WordPress Account:
  • Click on “Customize” next to “Themes” and click on the “Home Page Settings” and click on “A static page” button then select “Home Page” and click on Publish
  • Click on the “X” button at the top left corner and click on ”View Site” at the top left then click on “Visit Site” at the top right corner
  • Look at the URL which should have the webaddress you created the “.wordpress.com”
  • add wp-admin to the end of “.wordpress.com” which should look like this “xxxxxxxx.wordpress.com/wp-admin” and press enter
  • Your screen should go to a different Dashboard
  • Click on “Posts” then click on “Categories”
  • Create the following 4 categories by typing in the info below then click on “Add New Category”:
    • “Summer Activities”
    • “Summer Clothes”
    • “Best Beaches”
    • “Best Vacations”
  • Click on “Posts” and create a post for each category
  • Each post must have an image of it from a website that is “public domain” which you can find by typing in “free public domain images” in your favorite search engine
  • Also,  click on the category each post belongs to
  • In total, you will have 4 Categories with 1 Post for each Category. Click on ***://mightyeagles.wordpress.com/ to see an example of what it should look like.
  • Click on “View Site” and marvel at your work then go to the next assignment

  • Log into WorPress and click on “My Site”
  • Go down the menu and click on the word “Customize”
  • Click on “Site Identity” and type your name and the word “2018” like my example
  • Add a Site Icon by selecting an image from you computer
  • Click on the “<” at the top left and Click on “Featured Prompt” and type “Summers are made for having fun.” in the Title then then type “Beaches – Vacations – Activities – Clothes” in the Description
  • Next, select a Background Image (from a public domain webwsite) that has to do with summer you will have to download then upload it and click on the “Publish” button at the top
  • Click on the “<” then click on “Contact Info” and put Brack’s address “400 Eagleland Dr. San Antonio, TX 78210” and add your email address to the email section and click on “Publish”
  • Click on “Style Packs” and select a different one then click “Publish”
  • Click on “Menus” and click on “Create New Menu” and name it “Main Menu”
  • Once created, click on “Main Menu” and click on the “+ Add Items” button
  • Click on the “+” next to the following Pages and Categories:
    • Home
    • Best Beaches
    • Best Vacations
    • Summer Clothes
    • Summer Activities
  • Click on “Publish”
  • Click on “Widgets” and click on “Sidebar”
  • Click on “Footer 1” and click on “+ Add a Widget” and click on “Instagram” and put your name and the word “Instagram Feed” in the title (if you actually wanted to show your feed wether for Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, you would have to find the URL for your page and copy and paste it in the “Page URL” section
  • Click on “<” button and click on “Homepage Settings” and click on “A static page” then select “Home Page” as your page
  • Click on “View Site” and marvel at your work then go to the next assignment

 

Creating a Free WordPress Website Assessment – Create a Food Truck Website

In this assignment, you will be applying what you have learned in the lessons for using WordPress. You will be creating a website for a Food Truck. Here are you instructions:

  • Create a new WordPress Site found under My Site “Add WordPress Site”
  • Think of a good name for a Food Truck and make it the website name when setting up your account
  • Find and choose an appropriate theme for a food truck
  • Create a Home Page and Put the name of the Food Truck with an image of a food truck and the type of food it sells
  • Make this Home Page your “Front Page”
  • Create 4 Categories and Create 4 posts in each Category for the following:

Food Truck Parks
Recipes (for the food you are selling)
Things to do in (a city of your choice)
TV Food Shows

  • Make sure you have a nice background, a header, and only the following widgets in this order:

  • Create a Page named “Menu” and enter 4 food menu items in this page. Include the following:

Name of the Menu Item
Picture of that Item
Price of that Item

  • Create a Page named “Locations & Hours” and include the following:

The days and hours you will be open
The location of where your food truck will be located
A Google Map of the Location (click on menu of map and click on “Share or Embed map then click on “Embed map” then
copy the code an paste it in your webpage.
